Sun and Moon Flowers Two sisters in complementary dresses -- the blonde girl in white with blue accents, and the brunette in blue with white accents -- sitting in a white-panelled room at a sunny window which gives a view of a rose garden, trimming sunflowers to be put into blue-and-white oriental vases. Though they are dressed in the style of the 1820s, the sunflowers and the colors blue and white are emblematic of the aesthetic movement (art for art's sake) of the late 19th century when the picture was painted. (1889) |

Alice in Wonderland Alice, in a blue dress and white pinafore, leaning sleepily against her reading sister.Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister, ... and of having nothing to do: once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, "and what is the use of a book,"thought Alice "without pictures or conversations?" For a chart in which the background (wall) is not stitched, see LES009-B. (About 1879) |
