A lackadaisical scullery maid in cap and apron, seated before a fireplace. She has a dustpan in her hand and was evidently about to clean out the grate when the temptation to take a break became too much. A black cat wearing a blue collar is also enjoying the warmth of the fire. The scullery has a brick floor and a narrow table by the wall holds a couple of crockery pieces. A few pots and pans are hung on the walls and a cupboard is around the corner from the hearth. (About 1895)
