A young woman draped in rich silks with metallic ornamentation is seated on a fabulous throne of chased silver and mother-of-pearl. She leans on one arm, gazing into a small hand mirror. She seems to look searchingly rather than admiringly, perhaps seeking to reassure herself of her beauty or perhaps she is simply lost in other thoughts. Though her hair is dressed in a style reminiscent of ancient Greece, the ornate fabrics suggest a more recent period. (Pre-Raphaelite, 1896)
