A servant is pouring milk from an earthenware jug into a bowl on a draped table also holding a blue-and-white pitcher, a basket containing a round loaf of break, and several broken pieces of bread. A window with a broken pane casts light on the kitchen's mostly bare walls. The woman wears a white cap, yellow bodice, red skirt, and a blue apron. There is a footwarmer on the floor behind her. The painting on which this pattern is based is also sometimes known as "The Milkmaid". (1658)
