A portrait of a young woman with blonde hair in a red and tan dress and wearing a necklace with a large ruby and teardrop pearl. She is holding a small unicorn on her lap, in medieval romance a symbol of purity. She is seated on a balcony overlooking low hill. For many years this was thought to be a portrait of Saint Catherine because the unicorn had been painted over with a Catherine wheel, but the unicorn was revealed when the painting was restored in the mid-thirties.
