Men cutting blocks of ice from a frozen lake and loading them onto a large horse-drawn sled. A dog is lying on a coat that one of the men has laid on the ice. Surrounding the lake are frosty oaks which retain a few leaves, snowy meadows, and low hills can be dimly seen through a winter fog. (1862)
