Romeo giving Juliet a farewell kiss on her balcony after their wedding night. She clings to his neck as he straddles the balcony rail, about to descend. The strong rays of the rising sun create sharp contrast between lights and shadows. In a dark inner room, a lamp burns and a pot of Madonna lilies is beginning to drop its petals, but by contrast a passion vine climbs strongly up the columns of the balcony. (Pre-Raphaelite, 1884)
