Hello stitching friends,
The time is almost here! Scarlet Quince is closing as a business on December 31. You'll be able to place orders up to and including that date, but after that, the "add to cart" button will go away. We'll have links to the patterns at the Paine Free Crafts website, where most of them will continue to be available. (Licensed patterns will not be, at least not initially.) The rest of the web site will stay up, tips, tutorials, calculators, and especially SQ Stitch. Paine Free Crafts will be selling regular and large print patterns, formatted for letter or A4 paper, in print or electronic formats. Since they are in the UK and don't have letter paper available, letter format will only be available in electronic form. They will also be selling floss labels formatted for letter or A4 paper, but again, only in electronic form. They also sell kits, which is something many of you have asked about in the past. If you buy an electronic pattern from them, you'll also receive the zip file for installing it in SQ Stitch. Zip files will not be distributed with print pattern orders. If you have questions, let me know, but soon, while there's still time to work out any kinks we haven't thought of. It has been lovely working with all of you over the last (almost) 23 years!
I'm sorry I don't have details on the offline only version of SQ Stitch yet. My plan for how that would work didn't pan out, so now I'm working on a more complicated (for me) approach. DON'T WORRY -- SQ Stitch will continue to be available in its current form until the offline version is ready. As details become available, they will be posted under the "Announcements" button on the Patterns tab in SQ Stitch (note there is a date which will change when there's news), and on Facebook in the Scarlet Quince group. I will also send emails to subscriber emails that are registered in SQ Stitch. (Non SQ Stitch users will be removed from the mailing list -- this is the last general newsletter.) If you aren't sure if your SQ Stitch email address is on the mailing list, you can check it by going to the Setup tab in SQ Stitch and clicking "Edit Account". Then go to the Scarlet Quince member services page and enter that email address under "Am I a member?". SQ Stitch pattern installation in the future will use locally installed files, rather than downloading the data from the Scarlet Quince server. The way it will work is: you will download a zip file (that's a compressed file that contains all the data needed to install a pattern), one zip file for each pattern. You do not need to unzip it. Just save it on your device for a future day when you may want to reinstall that pattern. SQ Stitch does not yet have the abillity to use the zip files -- we're working on that -- but try to get all your pattern zip files downloaded before the end of the year. There isn't a limit on how often you can download the files, and you can save them on multiple devices. If in the future you buy a pattern from Paine Free Crafts you'll receive a zip file for that pattern from them, so you can continue to use SQ Stitch for new purchases. Here's how to get your zip files:
Just a reminder, if you have bought print patterns, you can get PDF copies at no charge. It's a good idea to have a PDF on hand since pages do wear out with excessive handling. (If you bought an electronic copy, make sure you can find it. We'll send it again if need be.) If you didn't buy the pattern from us (e.g. an Amazon or eBay purchase), send a photo of the cover with your request. I haven't discussed continuing this policy with Paine Free Crafts, so I recommend you get your requests in by the end of the year.
I know this is a lot to take in, particularly if you're not especially technical, so if you have questions, please ask!
Stay well and keep stitching, | ||
