Scarlet Quince News

Thank you all so much for voting for Scarlet Quince in the Cringely's List startup company competition! (If you missed this, see last month's newsletter -- we're hoping to be chosen to appear in a TV series!) Many people also left incredibly complimentary comments -- we were very moved. If you didn't vote before, there's still time -- see last month's newsletter for how to do that, and comments are optional but greatly appreciated!

We have a pattern award this month! Susan M. in Texas was the first to suggest Still Life with Bible - Vincent Van Gogh (see below) and we've sent her a copy of the pattern to thank her for her suggestion. This is the first of Van Gogh's works from his early somber period that we've translated to cross stitch.

There have been many additions to the gallery over the past 2 or 3 months. We encourage you to take a look -- you'll be impressed. If you have work you'd like to share and you don't have a digital camera or scanner, you can mail us a print and we'll scan it and return it to you (hint)!

We've found that the floss labels don't stick as permanently as they might to certain plastic bobbins with a roughened surface -- they stick, but over time they tend to lift and have to be pressed back down. On investigation, we found that the type of label we were using isn't the best for humid climates. We've switched to different material which is supposed to adhere permanently regardless of weather, and so far they do seem better, although Austin isn't into the really spirit-crushing humidity yet. If you have floss labels that aren't staying stuck, please let us know.
