SQ Stitch Updates
We recently released a new version of SQ Stitch (1.7) that includes the following changes:
- If you have forgotten your user name, you can recover it by entering the email address associated with your account. (If you have forgotten both user name and password, recover your user name first; then you can reset your password.)
- You can now save your backups to a local file, instead of having them emailed. Please give this a try so that if you run into problems with it, you can ask for help. This will eventually be the only way to do a backup.
There are more enhancements coming. If you notice a new version number when you start the program, go to the "About" tab and click on the "Change log" link to see what's new.
The plan for SQ Stitch after I retire is that you will be able to download the software and your pattern data files (these are files that are referenced when you install a pattern) to your local device. This means that you will be able to use SQ Stitch without any internet connection, which many people have asked for. If getting the sofware installed locally is too challenging for our less technical users, we will probably continue to offer it the way it works now, at least for a while.
Retirement Planning
Since I announced my upcoming retirement (planned for the end of 2024), several people have inquired about taking over the business. I have given that a lot of thought, and I don't think it will be feasible. A few things you can do to prepare:
- If you have print patterns, you may ask for a PDF copy for no charge. It's a good idea to have a PDF on hand since pages do wear out with excessive handling. (If you bought an electronic copy, make sure you can find it. We'll send it again if need be.)
- All of our tips and tutorials are available in PDF format. If you want to be able to refer to them in the future, download and save them (the links are on the relevant pages).
- If you want to save the results of the floss or fabric calculator for a particular pattern, go to the results and choose "Save As..." (exactly how to do this depends on your device -- Google it). The calculators may be added to SQ Stitch but that's not definite yet.
- Visit or join the Facebook group. (Everyone can read but you must join to post.) Yes, I hate Facebook too, but the group is a great place to get answers to stitching issues, SQ Stitch issues, or just generally soak up good information. The group will continue to be available after I retire.
Stay well and keep stitching,
Meredith
