Happy 2014!
Both of our new patterns this month are by suggestion! Wild Poppies, Near Argenteuil - Claude Monet was suggested by Laura McVay, of Des Moines, Iowa. The other, Bouquet of Flowers with a Bird's Nest - Cornelis Van Spaendonck is the suggestion of Connie Guenther, Coos Bay, Oregon. Both ladies have been sent copies of their patterns as a thank-you for their suggestions.
There will be a rate increase for first class mail. The cost for the first ounce will go from 46 cents to 49 cents (within the US). Stock up on Forever Stamps now! International rates will also be increasing.
Also, USPS e-Delivery Confirmation International Service will available to the following additional countries: Estonia, Finland, Gibraltar, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Portugal, and Singapore. This is not full-fledged tracking -- it typically shows details as long as the package is in the US, then a gap of several days, then customs clearance, arrival at the local post office, and delivery (or delivery attempts).
We are working on being able to offer patterns in an electronic format! Our main reason for this change is that international postage has become painfully expensive. In addition, there are many places where it takes a long time for a physical package to arrive, if indeed it is not stolen in transit. Of course, printed patterns will continue to be available!
There is a lot of work still to do but we hope they will be available by the time of next month's newsletter! However, we can tell you the basics of how it will work: when you shop for patterns, there will be a toggle that controls whether you are shopping for a printed or electronic pattern. You'll be able to buy both patterns and floss labels in electronic form for a reduced price and no postage. You won't have access to the pattern instantly. After we have processed your payment, you will be emailed the items you ordered. The floss labels will be a special version with lines printed to show where to cut them apart (since we can't email you a label sheet). The pattern and labels will be watermarked with your name as a reminder that they are for your use only. The watermarks will be in the margins, not across the chart grid or label faces.
We are not going to use any kind of digital rights management, e.g. passwording the files, limiting the number of times they can be printed or opened, special software, etc. All that is expensive for us and annoying for you. In return, we only ask that you please respect our copyright and not "share" the patterns.
